Bear with me here.

I have a point and a reason for what’s happening to Sno.

This is one of the more difficult pages I’ve had to draw. I’m always a little nervous to post tough pages like this. In the next couple weeks hopefully it will become obvious why Sno has been stripped of her clothes, further then the High Priest being the worst! Just from what’s happening on this page, the most significant moment here is that this is where the High Priest has lost the audience. As much as they are indoctrinated, this was a bit much for them. It make sense just looking at how much they cover up and devalue their own women. To see that much skin in this context must be a shock.
The other big thing is Icari. His empathy has given himself away!

The intensity continues next week!

Hey Gang,

Not a lot to report this week.

I know I say this often but this was a page I’ve been anticipating for some time. It was hard to kill off this character. Part of me really want to give him a happy ending. With his situation though, I don’t think it would have been realistic. His is just a sad story. If Keyli doesn’t escape, this will most certainly be his fate.

The other big thing is of course, Eetori has mastered his new invention. A bow and arrow may seem low tech to us, but for them, this is a game changer. Things are even more dangerous for our pack of Tree Dwellers!

Still no word on when the videos of my panels will be posted. The good people at Denver Comic Con assured me they will be up. It was only their third year so i’m giving them a bit more time.

37Well, of Chapter 5 anyways.

Why is that? Because there are only three pages to go.

That’s right, after 40 pages this epic chapter will be done. I do my best to stay in a printable comic book arena at 24 to 32 pages. This time I got a little carried away, but what can I say, it’s my favorite chapter so far. I really didn’t want to rush it so there was a need to add pages here and there. It helped the pacing and moments that needed to be emphasized. I hope everyone is enjoying the story so far. Chapter 6 promises to take things to the next level!

In case you didn’t see it.

I’ll be exhibiting at both Emerald City Comic Con again this year, and at Denver Comic Con.

For ECCC, I’ll be at Exhibitor booth 1308. On top of exhibiting For “Hominids“, I’ll also be there helping sell Monsterpedie 3, which is an anthology book I’ve been a part of for the last 3 years. So if you’re planning on coming this year make sure to stop by and say hi!

A word of advise for comic creators.

Don’t get sick when you’re working on a difficult page.

I would have had this page uploaded this morning but I caught a nasty bug on Saturday, which seems to be lasting an obnoxiously long time.

I’m also working on a new short story. Those of you who have followed me for awhile will remember the Monsterpedia books that I have worked on in the past. Monsterpedia 1 is where Hominids got its start. This year I’m collaborating with a friend who is writing while I’m drawing. I don’t get to draw other peoples stories very often so it has be quite fun.

Also Hominids got a review last week over at Girls Like Comics. If you haven’t read it yet, check it out and let me know your thoughts.

A new page is up!

It’s been about a month since I was on time.

I hope everyone enjoys and please discuss. What do you think Icari’s plan is?

This is the last week to donate to The Comic Creators For Freedom fundraiser. It ends on Saturday the 14th, so make sure to contribute before then.

Make sure to donate at the official Hominids fundraising page. Donate here and we can track exactly how many Hominerds contribute. With some of your help I’ve already raise $390! I’m hopeful that we can double it this week before it ends on the 14th.

You’ll also get a poster collage with each artists contribution. Check out mine below.
Thank you everyone!

Chapter 4

20121025-090748.jpg

Chapter 4 has begun! It’ll all starts with this epic double-page cover. This is one of the funnest parts of making comics, is creating an illustration that encompasses the main event of each issue.
Comics in general have gotten away from this in the last ten years or so. Instead, you tend to see lots of action shots where the heroes are running towards some ambiguous threat or standing on a rooftop looking heroic. This may look great but it says nothing of the story inside! The other thing we often see is a beautifully created illustration that’s a bit abstract and also tells us nothing about the story, and they are usually created by a different artist then the one inside. This usually makes me put the comic right back on the self because I wanted to read a comic that looked like the cover I just picked up.
I like to harken back to the good ol’ days when a cover was not only drawn by the interior artist but also says a little something about what you will be reading. So I solemnly swear that the scene in this cover will show up in the story. Enjoy!
