ECCC is All Over

I just wanted to thank everyone who came out to ECCC this last weekend. Even though I missed Friday, I had a blast on Saturday and Sunday. Being a Seattle local I never miss it and its one of my favorite cons to attend. Unfortunately it was a less successful show then previous years, despite the fact that there were twice the people and twice the floor space. My business wasn’t all that different to that of NYCC. My hypothesis is that once a show grows to a certain size it’s actually bad for independent comics. Almost everyone I talked to said they had a harder time selling books this year. However, people did great if they had extra merchandise like prints.
There was also the fact that big celebrities stole a lot of traffic. To get a photo with someone like Gillian Anderson, it cost $65 and Patrick Stewart was $100. Who’s going to buy comics after that.
The real joy of the convention as always, was talking with people and putting faces to fans. Everyone was so friendly and despite being overcrowded, were having lots of fun. I’m already set to go for next year. I think I’ll plan on some more artwork to sell, plus I’ll have more issues.
Here are some of the highlights of the show for me:

My first sketch of ECCC

Someone really liked the frog I did in Chapter 3

Cap is ready to serve a can of woopass for his country!

An awesome Shockwave cosplay.

This guy bought his t-shirt from me at last years ECCC

My buddy Rick Werner’s son as the caped crusader.

All the merch I bought.

What a dork.

Awesome shots, especially of the Merch! I noticed you scored a copy of reMind, excellent GN. I’ve been following Jason Brubaker for quite a while now.

Hey Steven, Thanks. It was a lot of fun. I’m really excited to read reMind 2. I’ve been following Jason for a while as well. I get a lot out of his Making Comics site. This was the third time talking to him and he’s a really nice guy.
