The Great Beyond!

This may be one of the most important pages to come out of the Hominids narrative.
This is the first time the concept of the “after life” has been brought up to the Tree-Dwellers. In human society, the comfort of our loved ones living on after death is a great comfort. Icari is a little surprised that this isn’t the natural reaction that the Tree-Dwellers also have. It might need some further explaining.

Also, don’t forget that the first 6 chapters are available at the Hominids store! This is perhaps the best way you can support your favorite webcomic! Not only will you have your own copy but the you won’t have to read it through the lens of a low resolution web image any more. I’m telling you that it is quite lovely in book form and would look great on your bookshelf…

This is one of the most important scenes to me.

Loss is a difficult thing.

Often times the mourning process is pushed aside in storytelling so it doesn’t get in the way of the plot. I didn’t want to do that for these characters. I didn’t think that would do them justice.
In this scene, I really wanted to drive home how difficult mourning can be on all sides. Now that they are out of danger, Keyli and Clumsy have no part in driving they story forward, so I left that to Zona and Lye when talking with the Giants. If anything, right now, Keyli and Clumsy want nothing to do with anything. They just need to be alone.
Icari on the other hand, feels a great deal of guilt for not being able to save Sno. He also feels awkward approaching his friends because he knows they are suffering more than he is. Even for those of us who haven’t yet lost someone, I think everyone has felt what Icari is feeling. Wanting to help, but helpless to do so.

In other news, I’m experimenting around with some process videos. This is my first one, showing how I sometimes do my pencils. I’m going to be doing this more often and will probably be doing some Google Hangouts so make sure to follow my social media sites for news on when I do.
PS. the sound isn’t very good on this one so it might be best to have it on in the background while working on something else.

I’ve put you guys through the ringer and now it’s time to deal with the aftermath.

A lot has happened in the Hominids world this week.

First off, check out this great podcast I did this last Friday with the guys over at Inter-Comics Podcast. I had a great conversation with Jack about Hominids, the new Daredevil season, the upcoming X-Men movie and a bunch of comics!
