A new week finds us back in the present.

Zona studies a new map that we haven’t seen before. It seems as if all her plans are coming together only to have them shattered when Lye and Basse return with ill news. If you want to know more about what she’s up to, go back and read the last few pages of Chapter 2 and then her conversation with Icari by the fire in Chapter 3.
This week I’ve also added Google AdSense to the website. This is my first attempt at using them. I’ve had Project Wonderful ads up for along time with little return. I’m hopeful that I might find better luck with these. Have any of you used AdSense? If so, what were the results?

Greetings fans, friends and fellow Hominerds!     LeaveAComment_Keyli

It seems like ‘Tree Dwellers’ are always saving ‘Mountain Dwellers’ from a deathly fall in the jungle. These guys are truly out of their element. If you want a clue as to who this Otari (Oh-tar-ee) character is, you only need to refer back to Chapter 3, page 22.

This is also the first time we see members of a particular group actively move against one of their own. It seems that not all is well within the factions of the Mountain Dwellers! The concept of a species turning violent on their own has always fascinated me. It seems to go so much against our own self interests, yet it happens all the time. Considering we are social creatures, you would think we would want to do nothing else but nurture each other and take care of one another. The theme of turning violent against ones own people is something that we will explore in greater depth as the story unfolds.

Also, if you’re enjoying the comic, consider leaving a comment. I love hearing from each and every one of you. It’s an invaluable tool to find out who’s reading, where you found the comic, and what you think. I love talking to you and will always comment back.

It’s about 4:30 in the morning here in Seattle. Why do you ask, am I up at such an ungodly hour? Well, as I’m sure you know already, Chapter 5 has officially begun and I wanted the new pages to be up before most of you rolled out of bed.

Posted today is a new eerie cover, featuring a mysterious figure. Who might this fellow be and I wonder if he’s been mentioned in the past? I have a feeling not much good will come from this guy. Also posted today is of course page 1, which introduces us to a new character Otari. A young innocent priest with a lot of potential. I like seeing a bit more of these raiding parties that we always hear about. It’s interesting to me that they always bring a priest for spiritual protection, yet the priest never makes it out alive. It seems as if there is some descent amongst their ranks. For those of you anxious to find out what’s happened to Sno, Keyli, Clumsy and Icari you will soon find out.

There are a couple new additions to the website that you may have noticed already. I can finally blog about the most recent post here on the home page. Such a simple feature but I’m really excited about it.

The other big change is that you can now read the comic in a classic webcomic format! If you look up at the navigation bar you will see a new tab titled Classic Reader. This will allow you to read the comic like any other webcomic out there. Although most of you like the way the comic is formatted, I can understand not everyone wants to read the comic like this, especially if you are on a mobile device. The other reason is I haven’t been able to be a part of sites like Comic Rocketthe Webcomics List, and the new InkOutbreak feature. This is simply due to the fact that all my updates are to my homepage so it’s impossible for them to track my update progress. The updates to my website will change all that and hopefully bring about new readers. As usual I’d love any and all of your feedback.

Thanks for being patient everyone! Chapter 5 promises to be the most epic Hominids yet!

Well fellow Hominerds, that wraps up another chapter in the “Hominids” saga! Things are looking bleak for our heroes. So much has happened and there is still so much yet to come. I’m anxious to get going on Chapter 5!

I’m going to take about a month break to get ahead on the next chapter, but will be posting concept art and updates about Chapter 5 regularly.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the story so far. This is just the beginning!

Next week will be the last page of Chapter 4! It’s hard to believe I’m this far along. You think and dream about these scenes for so long and then suddenly they’re there on paper. It allowing you to move on and finally think about something else. It’s such a liberating feeling.

Icari’s reunion with his father was a big moment for him. Even though he’s misleading his father, he is still standing up to him. You don’t have to know very much to realize their past relationship was a rocky one. For the first time, he looks upon Icari with respect, even if he was willing to kill him only a page before.

I’m really excited about where the story goes from here, but I’ll have more on that next week.

Oh yeah, Icari! Where have you been? What’s his motive for betraying his friends like this? A lot has happened in the last 5 pages and each one has left you with pretty big cliffhangers. I hope it’s not too frustrating and you keep coming back for more.

There are only 2 pages left of Chapter 4 and a lot is going on. There is still more to be revealed!

Perhaps the most epic page yet, I’ve been waiting a long time for this one! To be honest, I was a little intimidated by it too. Not only because of the big double-page spread but also because this is really the first time we’re seeing the humans and neanderthals battling in a war-like setting. There’s been talk about it from the very beginning and I knew it’d be a while before we got to this.

So prepare yourself for the next couple weeks! It’s going to be all out war for several pages. Don’t let that fool you though, this is a very important battle. Everything that happens will have consequences and their world will never be the same!

Since this is a big turning point in the story and if you’re liking it so far, this would be a perfect time to share ‘Hominids’ anywhere you can. The second half of the story is where things are really going to take off! https://hominidscomic.com/

This week the team finally makes their way out of the cave, albeit slightly empty-handed. I really wanted Icari to leave the cave in the opposite manner to which he entered. He’s not happy about this situation and it’s just the icing on the cake that the rest of the crew didn’t take the mission as seriously as he did. It’s unfair of him to assume that they would put all their best resources into something they don’t believe in but that’s not how he sees it. This feeling of betrayal may have some consequences in the future.

Art wise this was a really fun page. The panel where they were getting projected out of the water and into the trees was particularly difficult. My pencils were just a mess. All in all though, it’s one of my favorite panels.
The things that’s really exciting is that this page leads up to next weeks page.

I’ve been waiting a long time for this one and I think you’ll love it. So make note not to miss is. I’ll be giving little previews throughout the week.

Today’s new page introduces a few new characters. These three guys, although not essentials, might pop up from time to time. They’re a lot of fun to draw. I feel like even though they all look very different in size and shape, they’ve been soldiers in arms for a long time.
We’ll be meeting a lot of new characters soon that will have a big impact on the story. Stay tuned!
