Two pages to go!

Boy, does that High Priest love to hear himself talk.

In case you didn’t see it.

I’ll be exhibiting at both Emerald City Comic Con again this year, and at Denver Comic Con.

For ECCC, I’ll be at Exhibitor booth 1308. On top of exhibiting For “Hominids“, I’ll also be there helping sell Monsterpedie 3, which is an anthology book I’ve been a part of for the last 3 years. So if you’re planning on coming this year make sure to stop by and say hi!

Here is a little preview of the short story my writer-in-crime, Winda Benedetti did for Monsterpedia 3

37Well, of Chapter 5 anyways.

Why is that? Because there are only three pages to go.

That’s right, after 40 pages this epic chapter will be done. I do my best to stay in a printable comic book arena at 24 to 32 pages. This time I got a little carried away, but what can I say, it’s my favorite chapter so far. I really didn’t want to rush it so there was a need to add pages here and there. It helped the pacing and moments that needed to be emphasized. I hope everyone is enjoying the story so far. Chapter 6 promises to take things to the next level!

The last two days were a little stressful.

You might have noticed the site was down.

There was a few issues with Sitelock that caused the whole thing to fall apart. Fortunately, I was able to get on the phone with my web host and Sitelock to get that all worked out. I apologize to all you folks out there who were frustrated that you weren’t able to get to the site the last couple days.

On a happier note, a couple of fun announcements!

The new page is finally here!

Sorry for the delay everyone. Life and work got in the way.

Not much to report. Enjoy this weeks page!

Not much to say this week…

…other then it looks like Sno is realizing which team Icari is playing for.

Have a great week everyone. The escape attempt continues next week!

A page like this is a bit tricky.

It’s tempting to want to add dialog or text of some kind.

A lot of times cannon fodder characters will have some playful banter, talking about something that has nothing to do with the story. It can be a fun break and add a bit of humor.  That or the main character will have an internal dialog going on during the action. They’ll internalize either what’s happening or think about something else. Spiderman does this better then anyone else. Batman spends a lot of time brooding to the audience as well.  For my part, that stuff can often come off as filler. Not truly adding anything to the story. It might be the animator in me but I like to let the action speak for itself. Even if it seems like a page of characters running around frame after frame, it’s important to pace it in a way that makes the city feel huge.

I hope you enjoy this weeks page. It’s one of my favorites. I do have a feeling there will be something on the other side of that tunnel.

The last Saturday I was on the TGT Podcast.

Kurt Sasso and I talked for a good solid hour about all things “Hominids”.

We chatted about the biggest challenges I’ve face making the comic, how I feel about the book now, and where I’m planning on taking it in the future. It was a blast talking to him and I hope we can do it again in the future. If you can’t get enough things Hominids, check it out and let me know what you guys think.

Technically I’m still on time.

Still, I apologize for keeping everyone waiting.

Just a quick news update this week, on Febuary 1st I will be on the TGT Podcast talking to Kurt Sasso about Hominids. So make sure to check it out and let me know what you think, topics we should have covered and things you’d like to hear about in the future.

A word of advise for comic creators.

Don’t get sick when you’re working on a difficult page.

I would have had this page uploaded this morning but I caught a nasty bug on Saturday, which seems to be lasting an obnoxiously long time.

I’m also working on a new short story. Those of you who have followed me for awhile will remember the Monsterpedia books that I have worked on in the past. Monsterpedia 1 is where Hominids got its start. This year I’m collaborating with a friend who is writing while I’m drawing. I don’t get to draw other peoples stories very often so it has be quite fun.

Also Hominids got a review last week over at Girls Like Comics. If you haven’t read it yet, check it out and let me know your thoughts.
